Biking...

As our previous post said, we left San Cristobal and headed to Ocosingo. We expected this to be an 88km ride.....it turned out to be 97km of serious mountainside, hills and incredible views.  It took us all day and we were exhausted, but we made it.
The following day we were back on the bikes and started off towards Agua Azul, a 67 km ride. Cassie woke up feeling under the weather but wanted to push on.....push on she did (literally)- up most of the hills when she wasn't buckled over with exhaustion. This was an extremely hard day for both of us and pushed us mentally and physically. We did make it however and Agua Azul was beautiful. We had planned to ride again from Agua Azul to Palenque however, due to both of our exhausted states we decided to take a bus. We approached a French tour group leader about dropping us to Palenque, he was more than happy to take us and the bikes and when we boarded the bus the group applauded us and welcomed us with open arms - for free!
From Palenque we took an overnight bus to Chetumal, on the Mexico-Belize border, and stayed for the night. After meeting an awesome guy who owned the hotel, we recovered and renewed our energy to go to Belize the next day.

The start of our uphill journey.

Cruising downhill the only good part of hill climbing.

Nearly there...

We made it- 97 km!
A misty start to part 2 of the journey.

Cassie wasn't feeling very well at all- at this point she was trying to flag down pick up trucks to take her up the hill.

We made it to beautiful Agua Azul.

Cooling off.

About Us

We are an Australian couple who love to travel as much as we can. Our first backpacking adventure began in 2007 when we travelled through Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam and southern China for 3 months before settling in Beijing for 6 months to teach English. Beijing proved a great base to earn enough money to continue travelling as Cameron managed to get to South Korea and Japan for 2 months, before we both went to Canada at the end of 2008. We then worked and travelled in Canada and the US for about 8 months before heading home to finish university. After graduating university, Cameron as a secondary English and Social Science teacher and Cassie as a human services worker, we worked for two years before heading off for our next adventure. This time, we left Australia on Christmas day 2012 and travelled through Europe for 4 months before heading for Central America. We initially intended to travel in Central America for 3 months but ended up staying for eleven. This trip has seen us travel through over 20 countries in 12 months and we are not intending to stop just yet!
