On route to Costa Rica

After finishing up with our volunteering project we needed to get on the road to meet up with Cam's parents in Costa Rica and had 2 weeks to get there.  We crossed to Livingston, Guatemala, from Punta Gorda, Belize, by boat and met up with a guy who has some volunteer projects which we were interested in joining after being in Costa Rica, and spent the weekend looking at his projects and plans and even helped build his mud house.  From here we took a boat down the Rio Dulce (Sweet River) to the town of Rio Dulce.  Here we relaxed and partied with some great Irish, Germans and Americans and visited Cascada Paraiso (Paradise Falls) where the top of the waterfall is heated thermal earth and the river flowing below is about 17 degrees.

We then spent 4 days transiting Honduras in Chicken Buses and visited Copan and Tegucigalpa.

Next up was Nicaragua and our first stop was a cute little town by the name of Esteli.  Here we participated in a street party for the FSLN Political Party and toured a cigar factory where our eyes, nose and throat burnt from the intoxicating tobacco leaf fermentation room and Cameron tried his skills at rolling a cigar.  We hit the chicken bus trail again and stopped in Granada and Isla Ometepe where we tried to hike the Volcan Concepcion (Conception Volcano) but the weather gods decided to give us fog and rain.  Instead we hired a bike and rode around the island taking in the views and scenery.

About Us

We are an Australian couple who love to travel as much as we can. Our first backpacking adventure began in 2007 when we travelled through Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam and southern China for 3 months before settling in Beijing for 6 months to teach English. Beijing proved a great base to earn enough money to continue travelling as Cameron managed to get to South Korea and Japan for 2 months, before we both went to Canada at the end of 2008. We then worked and travelled in Canada and the US for about 8 months before heading home to finish university. After graduating university, Cameron as a secondary English and Social Science teacher and Cassie as a human services worker, we worked for two years before heading off for our next adventure. This time, we left Australia on Christmas day 2012 and travelled through Europe for 4 months before heading for Central America. We initially intended to travel in Central America for 3 months but ended up staying for eleven. This trip has seen us travel through over 20 countries in 12 months and we are not intending to stop just yet!
