Back to the Caribbean life - Utila round 2

After 5 weeks of cold and pretty miserable weather in the US, we were obviously very stoked to be heading back to the warmth and beautiful weather of the Caribbean. Even more exciting, was the fact that we were heading back to our second home, Utila, to see all the beautiful, familiar faces we had missed since leaving in December. Also, we were going back to actually work as divemasters for Underwater Vision - perfect, getting paid to go diving almost everyday!

Underwater Vision - Utila, Honduras.

On the day we made it back to the island, we walked into the dive shop at 10:30 and were out drinking and partying on Water Cay by lunchtime.

We hated being back in the Caribbean - Water Cay, Utila, Honduras.

Our house for the two-and-a-bit months we were back - Utila, Honduras.

Life on Utila consists of diving, partying, kicking back in the water (not necessarily in this order).

When we weren't below the surface diving, we would practise our various modes of deep-water entry off the dive boat or dock at Underwater Vision - Utila, Honduras.

Our first shabbat dinner at or house. Shabbat is the Jewish day of rest from Friday sundown to Saturday sundown and is a time for family and friends to get together to share a meal. Our Israeli friends would organise these 'family' dinners at someone's house every Friday night.

The following photos are some shots from our GoPro showing the main reason we love Utila so much - the diving.

We found this little guy, a Longsnout Seahorse, hanging below the dock next to the dive shop.

Cassie always forgets to keep her regulator in while diving.

An awesome honeycomb cowfish with Jack clearly stoked that he is now a divemaster.

Schooling Atlantic Spadefish.

In case anyone didn't see this on Facebook, we swam with whalesharks.  This one hit me when I fell into the water.

One of my favourite, and fortunately extremely common, (at least this time in Utila) animals to see while diving: the Spotted Eagle Ray.

Inside the Captain's Bridge, Haliburton Wreck.

Southern Stingray.

Juvenile trunkfish (or box fish).

Ending an afternoon of diving watching the sun set.

One of the many beautiful sunsets from the Underwater Vision dock.

Having a few cheeky shots for the Rehab challenge to celebrate Balthasar's divemaster graduation.

About Us

We are an Australian couple who love to travel as much as we can. Our first backpacking adventure began in 2007 when we travelled through Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam and southern China for 3 months before settling in Beijing for 6 months to teach English. Beijing proved a great base to earn enough money to continue travelling as Cameron managed to get to South Korea and Japan for 2 months, before we both went to Canada at the end of 2008. We then worked and travelled in Canada and the US for about 8 months before heading home to finish university. After graduating university, Cameron as a secondary English and Social Science teacher and Cassie as a human services worker, we worked for two years before heading off for our next adventure. This time, we left Australia on Christmas day 2012 and travelled through Europe for 4 months before heading for Central America. We initially intended to travel in Central America for 3 months but ended up staying for eleven. This trip has seen us travel through over 20 countries in 12 months and we are not intending to stop just yet!
